Buddy Guy is an American blues guitarist and singer, born on July 30th, 1936, in Lettsworth, Louisiana. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of the Chicago blues sound. Guy began his musical career performing with bands in Baton Rouge during the 1950s before relocating to Chicago in 1957. He initially recorded for a subsidiary label before moving to Chess Records, where he worked both as a sideman and a leader after Cobra Records folded. During his time at Chess, he also recorded under the pseudonym Friendly Chap. In 1967, he moved to another label and continued to work with various labels throughout his career. Buddy Guy has received numerous accolades, including six Grammy Awards and 23 W.C. Handy Awards. In 2003, he was honored with the National Medal of Arts. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2008. He is also the brother of an unspecified individual.
