Bugge Wesseltoft is a Norwegian jazz pianist and bandleader, born on February 1, 1964, in Porsgrunn, Norway. He began his musical journey in a punk band but found his true passion in jazz. Wesseltoft formed a jazz quartet, enhancing their compositions with effects from his Atari ST. He is recognized as the "mastermind" of a new generation of musicians who blend classic jazz with electronic music through his concept, New Conception of Jazz, which aims for a synthesis of live electronics and improvised jazz. In addition to his electronic work, he also focuses on purely acoustic piano playing. In 1996, he founded his own music label, Jazzland, which provides a platform for the Norwegian jazz scene, promoting artistic freedom away from the mainstream. Wesseltoft is an influential figure in Norwegian jazz, collaborating with notable artists such as Jan Garbarek, Sidsel Endresen, Eivind Aarset, and Ingebrigt Håker Flaten. His international collaborations include work with Henrik Schwarz, Miki N’Doye, and John Scofield. He achieved success with the trio Rymden, alongside Dan Berglund and Magnus Öström. In recognition of his contributions to music, he received the Buddyprisen in 2004.
