Bukka White was an American Delta and Country Blues guitarist and singer, born on November 12, 1906, in Houston, Mississippi. He passed away on February 26, 1977, in Memphis, Tennessee. His name, Bukka, is a phonetic spelling derived from the name of an African-American educator and civil rights activist. In 1990, he was posthumously inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. White is also noted for being the first cousin of another musician, who often credits him as an early teacher and mentor.
