Bullet LaVolta was a post-punk band from Boston, Massachusetts, formed in January 1987 by four college disk jockeys: Clay Tarver (guitar), Bill Whelan (bass), Corey "Loog" Brennan (guitar), and Chris "Cruster" Guttmacher (drums). The band later included singer Yukki Gipe, who responded to an advertisement. They played their first show at a dive bar in Boston called Chet's Last Call, performing to a small crowd of about fifteen people. However, they quickly gained popularity and became one of Boston's most prominent live acts, often playing college shows at institutions like MIT and Harvard, alongside bigger acts such as The Lemonheads, Dag Nasty, and the Rollins Band. Their music blended elements of punk, heavy metal, and hardcore punk, drawing influences from bands like Naked Raygun, Motörhead, and early Fugazi.
