Bustmonster is a Japanese "superstar" band that originated in 1991 when members Akita, Yamazaki, Iwasaki, and Zev performed live in Kyoto under the name Merzbow. The lineup featured Akita on drums, Iwasaki on guitar, with Mazo and Zev providing vocals, creating a sound characterized by loud freak rock. As time progressed, Akita developed an interest in death metal, steering the band towards a sound influenced by death metal and grindcore. In 1992, Ohno from Solmania and Sakaibara joined the band, and they began performing cover songs of famous noise artists in Osaka, eliciting laughter from audiences. Kosakai later joined the group, and they continued to perform in Nagoya. By 1994, Akita shifted the band's concept to improvised freak rock, exploring new musical directions. However, after a short period, Bustmonster faded out.
