Camper Van Beethoven is a California avant-garde/post-punk/country band that originated while its members were students at the University of California at Santa Cruz. The university comprises several colleges, each with distinct living facilities and academic focuses. College V, later renamed Porter College, has historically been home to more artistic, unconventional, and misfit students. The band was named to reflect the initials of the College V B-dorm (C.V.B.).
