Can is a German experimental rock band formed in Cologne around 1968, initially known as Inner Space before becoming "The Can" with American vocalist Malcolm Mooney. The band is recognized as a key pioneer of Krautrock, particularly during the period fronted by Japanese singer Kenji "Damo" Suzuki, who infused their sound with a unique blend of improvisation, noise, mantra, and funk rhythms. Over their 10+ year history, Can remained at the forefront of the Krautrock scene, composing music for films by directors such as Roland Klick and Wim Wenders, and achieving international success with their pop satire single "I Want More" in 1976. Holger Czukay was the first member to pursue a solo career after the band split, while keyboard player Irmin Schmidt also enjoyed a successful solo path. Other members engaged in solo projects or collaborations. In 1986, Czukay, Karoli, Mooney, Schmidt, and Liebezeit reformed to produce the album "" in 1989. Can received the German music industry's Echo Award for lifetime achievement in March 2003. Despite the passing of some members, Can continues to inspire and boasts a vast collection of unreleased tape recordings. The Lost Tapes, released in 2012, is part of this legacy, humorously referred to as Holger Czukay's pension fund. A new series of live recordings by dedicated Can fans is also emerging, showcasing the band's rich musical depth
