Candlemass is an epic doom metal band from Sweden, formed by bassist and songwriter Leif Edling after the dissolution of his previous band. The group made a significant impact on the doom metal genre with their debut album, "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus," released in 1986, followed by the landmark album "Nightfall" in 1987, which featured vocalist Eddie "Messiah" Marcolin. Marcolin recorded two more studio albums with the band before leaving in 1990. Candlemass then worked with vocalist Thomas Vikström for one more album before disbanding in 1993. In the late 1990s, Edling revived the Candlemass name, releasing two more albums with entirely new line-ups. In 2005, the classic line-up of Edling, Marcolin, drummer Jan Lindh, and guitarists Lars Johansson and Mats Björkman reunited to produce a self-titled album. However, tensions with Marcolin arose again during the preparation for a follow-up album, leading to his replacement by American singer Robert Lowe, formerly of another band.
