Julian "Cannonball" Adderley was an American jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, born on September 15, 1928, in Tampa, Florida. He was the brother of jazz cornet/trumpet player and the uncle of jazz keyboardist. Adderley was known for his lively personality and was a prolific musician, featuring on hundreds of releases throughout his lifetime. He performed in various jazz groups and recorded his own works under different ensembles. He passed away on August 8, 1975, in Gary, Indiana, at the age of 46.
