Captain & Tennille were an American musical act that gained great popularity in the mid to late 1970s. Their peak period was marked by two #1 hits, starting with their debut single from their album of the same name, which reached the top spot in the summer of 1975 and became their signature song. They achieved their second #1 hit with a song in 1979 that topped the charts in early 1980. In addition to their music career, they hosted their own television show on ABC for one season in 1976/77. Despite solid ratings, they chose to quit the show to focus on recording and touring. In July 1976, they were invited by First Lady Betty Ford to perform at the White House during the country's bicentennial celebration, where they performed in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II and President Gerald Ford. Notably, Queen Elizabeth fell asleep during their performance. Captain & Tennille were a husband and wife duo, but they divorced in 2014 after a 39-year marriage.
