Cass Elliot, born on September 19, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, was a renowned US singer best known as part of the musical group The Mamas and The Papas. She passed away on July 29, 1974, in London, England, from a heart attack. Elliot began her musical career as a member of a folky group in 1963 and later joined another group along with an ex-member in 1964-65. In 1965, she teamed up with former members of the Mugwumps, his wife, and another musician who had left the Mugwumps that same year to form The Mamas and The Papas, where she adopted the nickname Mama Cass. She is credited with creating the group's name while watching a TV program with the other band members while temporarily residing in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In 1970, she recorded an album with another artist. Although some releases were still credited to Mama Cass Elliot, it was during this period that she began using her original stage name, Cass Elliot. She was the mother of Owen Elliott-Kugell and the older sister of singer Leah Kunkel.
