Cesária Évora was a renowned Cape Verdean singer, celebrated for her unique blend of musical styles, including the upbeat Coladeira and the more melancholic Morna, which are traditional to Cape Verde. Known as the "barefoot diva" for her signature performance style of singing without shoes, she became the most prominent performer of Morna. Throughout her career, she primarily sang in Cape Verdean Creole, with occasional songs in Portuguese. Évora's recording career gained momentum in the 1980s, leading her to relocate to Portugal. In her later years, she began to incorporate more Cuban rhythms into her music. Born on August 27, 1941, in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde, she passed away on December 17, 2011, in her hometown of Mindelo.
