Cesária Évora was a renowned Cape Verdean singer, celebrated for her unique blend of musical styles, including the upbeat Coladeira and its slower counterpart, Morna, which reflects themes of sadness. Known as the "barefoot diva" due to her signature performance style of singing without shoes, she became the most recognized performer of Morna. Évora primarily sang in Cape Verdean Creole, occasionally using Portuguese. Her career gained momentum in the 1980s when she relocated to Portugal, and in her later years, she began to incorporate more Cuban rhythms into her music. Born on August 27, 1941, in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde, she passed away on December 17, 2011, in the same city.
