Chapter & The Verse, hailing from Manchester, UK, was founded by Anif Cousins and Colin Thorpe. They initially released records on Liverpool's Rham! records, which was also home to A Guy Called Gerald's iconic track 'Voodoo Ray.' Their 1991 album, Great Western Street, received acclaim, particularly for the club hit 'Black Whip.' The group's sound was a fusion of Soul, Funk, Jazz, Hip Hop, and House, contributing to the emergence of the Acid Jazz scene in the early 1990s, influenced by the resurgence of Raregroove and House music in the late 1980s.
