Charles Greenlee was an American jazz trombonist born on May 24, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away on January 23, 1993, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Greenlee began his musical career playing more traditional jazz, collaborating with various groups before shifting his focus to free jazz in the 1960s and '70s. He became a Muslim in the 1940s and changed his name to Harneefan Majeed, although he later abandoned both the name and the religion. While he is rarely credited by his Muslim name, it is often combined with his real name. His BMI CAE/IPI number is 87648034.
