Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band is a funk band formed in the mid-1960s in Los Angeles, California. They achieved success both as a backing group for other artists and as a standalone act, with their most notable hit being "Express Yourself," released in 1970. The original lineup included bandleader Charles Wright (vocals, guitar, piano), along with members on guitar, piano, trumpet, bass, drums, saxophone, and trombone. McKay, one of the original members, left the band in 1969 to join another group and was replaced shortly thereafter. Initially known as The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, they began recording under the name Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band in 1969. The group disbanded in 1972 when members Dunlap, Gadson, Jackson, and Blackmon went on to work with another artist. Following the disbandment, Charles Wright pursued a solo career.
