Charlie Mariano was an American jazz saxophonist and nagasvaram player, born on November 12, 1923, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He passed away on June 16, 2009, in Cologne, Germany. During the 1950s and 1960s, he performed with several big bands in the USA and Asia, and co-led a quartet with his then-wife. He later moved to Europe, where he expanded his musical repertoire to include the Malaysian nadaswaram and various Indian instruments. Mariano eventually changed his name to Charles Hugo Mariano.
