Charlie Mingus was an American jazz double bass player, pianist, composer, bandleader, and civil rights activist. He was born on April 22, 1922, in Nogales, Arizona, USA, and passed away on January 5, 1979, in Cuernavaca, Mexico, at the age of 56. Mingus was a pioneer in double bass technique and made significant contributions to music production, including overdubbing and cutting-up/reassembling tapes to create the best versions for records. He also authored an autobiographical novel titled "Beneath The Underdog." Mingus died from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease).
