Charlie Palmieri was a prominent pianist, bandleader, and musical director known for his contributions to Latin music, including Latin-Jazz, Salsa, and Charanga. Born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents on November 21, 1927, he earned the nickname "The Giant of the Keyboards" or "El Gigante Del Teclado" in Spanish. Charlie was a key figure in the evolution of Latin Jazz and Salsa. He passed away on September 12, 1988.
