Charlie Singleton is a US guitarist, singer, composer, and producer born on July 15, 1954, in New Orleans. He is best known for his work with the group Cameo, where he joined in 1981 and made his debut on their album "Knights Of The Sound Table" as a lead and background vocalist. Singleton played a more significant role in the band on their 1982 album "Alligator Woman," where he contributed more leads, songwriting, and instrumentation. Cameo underwent major changes after "Alligator Woman," including a departure from their Chocolate City label, the exit of keyboardist Gregory Johnson, and the establishment of their own label, Atlanta Artists. They transitioned from a hard-core funk band to a more synth-driven urban funk style, as seen in their 1983 album "Style" and 1984's "She's Strange." In 1985, Singleton formed his own band, Modern Man, while continuing to perform and record with Cameo. His first solo project, "Modern Man," was released on Arista Records, featuring the track "Make Your Move On Me, Baby." He achieved significant success with Cameo's 1986 album "Word Up" and later released two solo albums under Epic: "Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained" in 1987 and "Man On A Mission" in 1989, both featuring contributions from fellow Cameo members Larry Blackmon and Tomi Jenkins.
