Charo is a Spanish-American actress, singer, comedian, and flamenco guitarist, born on March 13, 1941, in Murcia, Spain. She gained fame in the mid to late 1970s with her disco albums and became known to American audiences for her comedic persona, characterized by her catchphrase "cuchi cuchi" and her playful use of the English language. Charo was married to Latin maestro Xavier Cugat from 1966 to 1978, and later to another partner until his death in 2019. Despite her image as a comedic figure, she is an accomplished classical guitarist. There has been controversy surrounding her birth year, as a Las Vegas court ruled January 15, 1951, as her official date of birth when she became an American citizen in 1977.
