Cheb Hasni (الشاب حسني) was an Algerian raï singer born on February 1, 1968, in Oran, where he also died on September 29, 1994. Regarded as "The king of sentimental music" and "The legend of raï music," he is celebrated as one of the most prominent Algerian artists of the late 20th century. Tragically, at the age of 26, he was assassinated outside his home in Oran by members of the GIA Islamic fundamentalist terrorist group, making him the first raï singer to be killed during the Algerian civil war. Over the course of 8 years, he released approximately 150 albums.
