Cheb i Sabbah (August 7, 1947 – November 6, 2013) was a renowned DJ and composer/producer, known for his captivating career that spanned three decades. Born in Algeria, he drew significant inspiration from his two uncles, who were masters of the Malouf style, also referred to as Andalusian music. Cheb i Sabbah described himself as a 'hajji', a musical pilgrim of the spirit. His name reflects this pilgrimage; 'Cheb' is a nickname used by Algerian rai singers, while 'Sabbah' means 'morning' and connects to Hassan i Sabbah, the Persian mystic associated with a legendary library. He passed away on November 6, 2013, in his home in San Francisco due to stomach cancer.
