Chet Atkins was an American country guitar player and producer, born on June 20, 1924, in Luttrell, Tennessee. He passed away on June 30, 2001, in Nashville, Tennessee. Known as "Mr. Guitar," Atkins was also a record producer for many prominent artists, including Elvis Presley. He is credited with inventing "the Nashville sound," a smoother, jazz-influenced style of country music. His guitar of choice was the Gretsch Country Gentleman. Atkins was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 as a sideman.
