Chicane is the most famous alias of British songwriter and producer Nick Bracegirdle. He first gained attention in 1995 as part of the duo with songwriter and producer Mike Elstob, known for their UK Top 40 hit "Right Here Right Now." They also collaborated as Disco Citizens, remixing their own track "Offshore," which had originally been released under the Chicane name. The Disco Citizens remix transformed the ambient original into a more dance floor-friendly version, achieving significant commercial success and reaching number 14 on the UK Singles Chart in December 1996. After Elstob's departure, Bracegirdle continued as a solo artist and later collaborated with the group Clannad to remake their 1982 hit "Theme From Harry's Game," titled "Saltwater." This track reached the UK Top 10 and became an international hit. In March 2000, "Don't Give Up," featuring Bryan Adams, gave Bracegirdle his first number 1 hit in the UK. To date, Chicane has scored 11 UK Top 40 singles, with five of those featuring other artists.
