Chisato Yamada was a renowned Japanese tsugaru-jamisen player born in 1931 in Ajigasawa. He passed away on April 12, 2004. Yamada was married to a Tsugaru minyo singer and played a significant role in popularizing the tsugaru-jamisen genre, performing internationally on numerous occasions. In 1982, he founded the All-Japanese Tsugaru-Jamisen competition and served as the chairman of the national association. He also dedicated his later years to teaching many young players and ran the Yamauta shamisen pub in Hirosaki.
