Chris Carter, born on January 28, 1953, in the City of London, is a musician and producer known for his involvement in the experimental music scene. He began his musical journey in 1967, playing bass guitar in a band called The Dragsters while still in school. Carter attended Friern Barnet Grammar School from 1964 to 1966 and then moved to Winchmore Hill County School, where he studied until April 1969. His first solo performance, under the name Waveforms, occurred on March 13, 1975, at Thurrock Technical College, after which he toured the university and college circuit. Carter's connection with the group COUM Transmissions began when John Lacey introduced him to Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni-Tutti, leading to his regular involvement with the studio. Following the breakup of Throbbing Gristle in 1981, Carter and Cosey Fanni-Tutti established the Conspiracy International record label (CTI) with support from Rough Trade. They initially focused on music but later expanded into producing experimental video works, collaborating with Doublevision to release a series of CTI experimental video films and soundtracks. Carter is also noted as a father.
