Christian Death is a Death Rock band formed in October 1979 in Los Angeles, California. The band's name is derived from the designer brand 'Christian Dior'. The original lineup from 1979 to 1981 included a vocalist, a bassist, a drummer, and John "Jay" Albert on guitar. In 1981, the lineup changed, and the band included a vocalist, a bassist, a drummer, and a guitarist. By the end of 1981, the band split but resurfaced in 1983 after merging with members from another group. The lineup from 1983 to 1985 consisted of guitars, vocals, drums, and bass. In 1985, the band signed a "partnership agreement" making all members equal partners, stipulating that any departing member would forfeit their rights. From 1989 to 1991, the band featured a guitarist along with various session musicians. From 1991 onwards, the lineup included a guitarist and a bassist who also provided vocals, as well as being the second wife of one of the members. The band continued with a vocalist, a guitarist, and another guitarist who also contributed vocals from 1991 to 1998.
