Christian Yoga Church is known for producing a unique record intended as a meditation aid for its members. This all-improvised jam session features religious chanting, a reed organ, and a variety of unconventional percussion instruments. During the '60s and '70s, many religious orders in California created similar Eastern-influenced LPs, but none sound quite like this one. Titled "Turn On," the project aimed to blend ancient Yogi music with modern psychedelic sounds, carried out by several inexperienced musicians. The session was organized for spontaneity, allowing church members to enter the recording room one at a time, select an instrument, and join in without any prior music preparation. The instrument selection was notably unusual, with participants using reindeer bells, metal bowls, toy flutes, French horns, kazoos, and waterfalls. The resulting product is steeped in a dense psychedelic atmosphere.
