Chubb Rock, born in Jamaica and raised in Brooklyn, is recognized as one of the East Coast's most skilled rappers. A former National Merit Scholar, he began his music career after leaving Brown University, where he was a pre-med student. Standing at 6 foot 4, Chubb Rock's stature contributed to his nickname. He released his debut album, Chubb Rock Featuring Howie Tee, in 1988, which included underground hits like "Caught Up" and "DJ Innovator." His follow-up album, And the Winner Is..., released in 1989, garnered him greater attention, leading to several hit singles in the early '90s, including "Ya Bad Chubbs," "Treat 'Em Right," and "Just the Two of Us." Chubb played a significant role in launching the careers of the Trackmasterz, Poke and Red Hot Lover Tone, and his dancers released an album under the name A-Teem titled A Hero Ain't Nothin' But a Sandwich. After the 1992 album I Gotta Get Mine Yo, Chubb Rock's presence in the music scene diminished until his comeback with The Mind in 1998.
