Chubby Checker is an American rock’n’roll vocalist, renowned for popularizing the "Twist" dance craze with his 1960 hit cover of the R&B song “The Twist.” He was born on October 3, 1941, in Spring Gulley, South Carolina. There is a rumor that his stage name was created by a record label as a playful twist on the name of the popular musician Fats Domino, suggesting a rivalry between the two. It’s worth noting that many “greatest hits” albums and CDs released after 1981 may not feature the original recordings but rather newer versions re-recorded around 1980.
