Cindy Scott, born Sundray Tucker in 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, was raised in North Philadelphia. With a musical lineage that includes her sister Lynda Laurence of The Supremes and cousins Tammi Terrell and Bunny Sigler, Cindy was destined for a singing career. By the age of 14, she was performing alongside her sister Lynda and later joined the Ordettes, which included Patti LaBelle. After a deal went sour with Don Robey, Sundray Tucker adopted the name Cindy Scott to record incognito. She began collaborating with Leon Huff and, in 1967, released two songs on Veep Records produced by John Madara and Dave White: "I Love You Baby" and a cover of Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long."
