CINEMA 90 was an electronic pop duo from Seattle, consisting of David Shumate and Colin McDonell. They connected through the local music scene in the early 80s, a time when electronic pop was not widely explored. After extensive technical experimentation, they developed a distinctive sound and performance style. Their setup included programmed drums using the Linn LM-2 and bass lines created on the Sequential Circuits Pro One, with David playing modified Casio keyboards through effects while Colin provided vocals. Their live performances, held at various clubs in Seattle and Vancouver BC, were minimal yet engaging. In 1983, they contributed the song "In Ultra-Violet" to the "Seattle Syndrome Two" compilation. Currently, David runs his own design firm, while Colin works at a university where he studied classical music; both continue to play as drummers in bands.
