The Cinematic Orchestra, formed in 1990 by Jason Swinscoe while studying Fine Art at Cardiff College, released their first official single on his own label. In 1994, Swinscoe gained recognition with a DJ spot on Heart FM, a pirate radio station in south London. Their debut album, "Motion," was released in 1999 and received critical acclaim, leading to a performance at the Director's Guild Awards for a Lifetime Achievement Award presentation to a film director. In 2000, the band was invited to create a new score for Dziga Vertov's classic 1929 silent film "Man with a Movie Camera," which they performed live during the film's showing. This project marked a departure from their usual studio compositions, as it required live performance without post-production work. The Cinematic Orchestra later toured with this work and released an album of the same name. Many compositions from this project were adapted for their next album, "Every Day." On May 7, 2007, they released the album "Ma Fleur," and in 2008, they performed the soundtrack for the Disneynature film "The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos," which was released on December 15. In 2010, they established their own independent label.
