C.J. & Co. was a disco-soul band from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 1977. The group gained recognition with their first single, "The Devil's Gun," which became their biggest hit. Following this success, they released two albums, but their popularity waned over time. A projected third album was planned for release in 1979 but was ultimately never released; however, tracks intended for it surfaced on compilations in 1998 and 2018. The band's origins trace back to 1966 when they, then known as The Theo-Coff, recorded several tracks for M-S Records. Despite not achieving significant commercial success outside of Detroit, their association with Theo-Coff proved beneficial in later years. In 1974, the group reformed with two female members and briefly operated under the name C.J. & Co. before the label they signed with went out of business. The lineup included two female singers and three male singers from various backgrounds. C.J. & Co. disbanded in 1979.
