Clancy Eccles was a notable ska and reggae vocalist born on December 9, 1940, in Dean Pen, St. Mary, Jamaica. He moved to Kingston in 1959, where he was discovered and signed by Coxsone Dodd. Eccles released his first singles in 1961, but he left the music business in 1965 to work as a tailor. He made a comeback in 1967 with self-produced hit singles. Throughout the 1970s, he was a strong supporter of the People's National Party and participated in various political events. Clancy Eccles passed away on June 30, 2005, from an apoplectic stroke.
