Clara Rockmore (born Clara Reisenberg on March 9, 1911, in Vilnius, Lithuania; died on May 10, 1998, in New York City, USA) is recognized as the most accomplished performer of the theremin, an electronic musical instrument. A child prodigy on the violin, she entered the Imperial Conservatory of Saint Petersburg at the age of five. Rockmore had a theremin specially tailored to her unique requirements, which she used to perform classical works.
