Clara Ward was an alto gospel singer, pianist, and arranger born on April 21, 1924, in Philadelphia. She was a member of the renowned Ward Singers gospel group from 1943 to 1966, which was directed by her mother, Gertrude Ward. Clara Ward was recognized as a significant influence in music, with Aretha Franklin citing her as her first inspirator. She passed away on January 16, 1973.
