Clare Fischer (October 22, 1928 – January 26, 2012) was an influential American jazz composer, arranger, bandleader, keyboardist, and multi-instrumentalist. Born in Durand, Michigan, he was the younger brother of Stewart "Dirk" Fischer and the father of a son born in 1964, with whom he collaborated extensively. Fischer's career spanned over five decades, gaining prominence in the early 1960s with significant contributions to Afro-Cuban jazz, salsa, and bossa nova. He is known for writing two jazz standards, "Pensativa" and "Morning." Fischer attended Michigan State University, where he studied composition and music theory, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in 1951 and a Master's in 1955. He received an Honorary Ph.D. from the same institution in December 1999. Shortly after graduation, he began working with a band as a piano accompanist and arranger. Around 1957, he arranged an album for a renowned jazz trumpeter, which remained unreleased for 25 years, and he gained critical acclaim for his small ensemble arrangements in 1960. In 1962, after moving to Hollywood and signing his first record deal, Fischer released his debut album.
