The Clarendonians are a ska and rocksteady vocal group from Jamaica, active initially from the mid- to late 1960s. The group was formed by Fitzroy "Ernest" Wilson and Peter Austin in 1963. They recorded their debut single, "A Day Will Come," in 1965 at Federal Records with producer Leslie Kong. After leaving Kong, they moved to Duke Reid's Treasure Isle studio and worked with Studio One boss and producer Clement Dodd. During this time, they recorded a series of singles, including "Rudie Gone a Jail," "Sho Be Do Be," "Rudie Bam Bam," and "You Can't Keep a Good Man Down," which helped to define the "rude boy" era of ska. The duo also played a role in bringing the seven-year-old Freddie McGregor to the attention of Mr. Dodd, though it is a common misconception that Freddie McGregor was a member of the group, as the Clarendonians were never a trio.
