Claude Debussy was a French composer born on August 22, 1862, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. He passed away on March 25, 1918, in Paris, France. Debussy is often regarded as the first Impressionist composer, although he rejected this label. He was a significant influence on music during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work liberated music from the academic constraints of the late nineteenth century, particularly those of the Austro-German School, and introduced new perspectives for 20th-century music. Debussy utilized pentatonic and whole tone scales, returning to the ambiguity of modal systems and revolutionizing traditional harmony, distinct from Wagner's innovations. His music also broke free from rigid rhythmic structures, leading to the abandonment of classical forms.
