Claudia Lennear, born Claudia Joy Offley in 1946 at Providence Lying-In Hospital in Rhode Island, is an American soul singer. After her mother married Leo V. Lennear, her last name changed to Lennear. She has collaborated with various notable acts, including Ike and Tina Turner, Humble Pie, and Joe Cocker. Lennear was part of a trio of backup singers for Delaney and Bonnie, alongside Rita Coolidge. Her interactions with Mick Jagger and David Bowie are often referenced as inspirations for The Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar" (1971) and Bowie's "Lady Grinning Soul" (1973). In a 1973 Rolling Stone article, she mentioned writing the song "Not At All" to express to Mick Jagger his dispensability. Lennear was also one of Leon Russell's Shelter People, contributing backup vocals on Joe Cocker's 1970 Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and live album, as well as on Leon Russell and the Shelter People (1971) and George Harrison's The Concert for Bangla Desh. In 1973, she released her solo album, Phew!, featuring tracks with Ry Cooder.
