Clear Path Ensemble is an electro-acoustic project from New Zealand, created by DJ, drummer, sound artist, composer, and dance music producer Cory Champion, also known as Borrowed cs. The ensemble features a rotating cast of talented musicians from Wellington, contributing to the vibrant neo-jazz and electronic music scenes in the area. Their music blends various genres, including psychedelia, spiritual and electric jazz, ambient, and house. In February 2020, Clear Path Ensemble released their self-titled debut album on Cosmic Compositions, which showcased a unique mix of fusion, spacy improvisation, sculpted beats, funky grooves, and airy textures. The album featured notable musicians such as guitarist/bassist Mara TK and bass clarinetist Jaxe Baxendale. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the album gained popularity in New Zealand, leading to a remix collection in September. Their reputation grew online, particularly through Bandcamp, positioning them as key figures in New Zealand's neo-jazz scene. In 2021, Champion and his evolving collective performed at various venues, including jam band locations and dance parties, and secured a prominent spot at the Wellington Jazz Festival. By the end of the year, they signed with Miles Cleret's Soundway label.
