Clementine, a French jazz singer born on September 23, 1963, is best known in Japan as "クレモンティーヌ." She began her career recording contemporary jazz for a French jazz label founded by her father, alongside producer who became a longtime collaborator. Her early recordings were discovered by Sony Music in Japan, leading to a series of records tailored for the Japanese market. In the 1990s, she found success with several singles in acid jazz and reggae styles, with "Un homme et une femme" becoming her signature song in Japan. Clementine's subsequent recordings included contemporary jazz sessions with Sidran aimed at the Western market, as well as a "trilogy" of bossa nova and MPB jazz recordings that capitalized on the rising popularity of Brazilian music in Japan. During this period, she collaborated with various producers and musicians, including a violinist. In the 2000s, she recorded a standards and bop album in Amsterdam but gained global recognition through a remix by a French DJ for a series, which led to additional collaborative singles. Throughout the decade, she released lighter, popular music, including full albums for the Asian market through EMI and mini-albums for Japan, along with another album recorded in New York City with Sidran.
