ClockDVA is a musical project formed by Adi Newton in 1978 after his departure from another band. The name 'DVA' is inspired by Anthony Burgess' novel 'A Clockwork Orange.' Initially, the group focused on experimental music influenced by science fiction and the occult, later incorporating elements of industrial and electronic music. Their first proper album, 'White Souls In Black Suits,' was released on cassette via Throbbing Gristle's label and featured a lineup that included Adi Newton, Judd Turner, and David J. Hammond, among others. In 1981, the lineup changed with the departure of Hammond and the addition of guitarist Paul Widger. The following album, 'Thirst,' produced by Ken Thomas, was released through Fetish Records and received critical acclaim. After 'Thirst,' Newton and Turner shifted the direction of the band, leading to the departure of several members following the tragic death of co-founder Steven James Turner. By 1983, Newton was the sole original member, joined by new musicians, and released the album 'Advantage' under Polydor Records. Following a tour, further lineup changes occurred, and it would take five years for another ClockDVA album to emerge. During this time, Newton was active with his audio-visual project TAGC, exploring ambisonics and psychoacoustics.
