Cola Boy was a musical duo comprised of Janey Lee Grace and Andrew Midgley. Andrew had previously collaborated with Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs on studio projects before the formation of St Etienne in the late 1980s. Janey had a background as a backing singer for various pop acts and worked as a radio broadcaster on LBC. The duo gained attention with their song "7 Ways," initially featuring vocals from Sarah, but due to contractual obligations, the final version included Janey's vocals. This version was released by Arista Records, while the original Sarah version was bootlegged extensively, resulting in significant losses for the label. Janey and Andrew were also managed by Sarah's mother, who had experience managing several acts, including the Wee Papa Girl Rappers. Cola Boy released a second single, "He Is Cola," which did not achieve commercial success. This concluded their two-single contract with Arista, and the label chose not to renew it. Although there was interest from other labels, Janey wanted to continue creating new material, while Andrew had shifted his focus to a new project called Blinder, which explored darker, non-pop dance music. The duo disbanded in late 1991 or early 1992, after which Andrew relocated north and found limited cult success with Blinder in the northern England and Scottish rave scenes before it dissolved in late 1993. Following this, Andrew transitioned into journalism and began composing music for television.
