Colleen, the stage name of French multi-instrumentalist Cecile Schott, is known for her unique approach to music. She combines her voice with the treble viola da gamba, a baroque instrument with gut strings, to create intricate stories exploring the human mind and heart. Schott's fascination with the viola da gamba began at age 15 after seeing it in the film Tous les matins du monde. The instrument, often said to resemble the sound of the human voice, deeply resonated with her. Influenced by various African music styles, she tunes the viola da gamba like a guitar and plucks it, which allows her to explore a new world of sound. This innovative technique is showcased in her addictive and unconventional pop album, Captain of None.
