Colonel Abrams was an American house music singer, songwriter, producer, and artist, born on May 25, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised in New York and became one of the first artists to bring house music into the mainstream, notably with his hit in 1984. This success marked the beginning of a series of dance hits that embraced the electronic sounds popular in the mid-1980s. Abrams continued to chart on the Dance and R&B charts into the mid-1990s and released music sporadically through the early 2000s. In 1996, he formed his own short-lived label. Colonel Abrams passed away on November 24, 2016, in New York City at the age of 67. In 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed him among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in a 2008 back catalog fire.
