Contender was a Christian heavy metal band based in the Beach Park area of Chicago, Illinois, USA, active until 1992. The band was originally formed in 1981 under a different name by a member and his cousin. Initially, they played AOR/hard rock music under the moniker Morning Star, but in 1983, they shifted their style to heavy metal and adopted the name Contender.
