Cool C, whose real name is Roney, is a member of Philadelphia's hip-hop scene known for his laid-back and stoned rhymes. He gained attention with his 1987 debut single "Juice Crew Dis," which targeted the influential New York-based Juice Crew. His notable 1989 singles include "I Gotta Habit" and "Glamorous Life," the latter sampling a song of the same title. After releasing his two solo albums, "I Gotta Habit" (1989) and "Life in the Ghetto" (1990), he later joined forces with fellow artists. However, in March 1997, Roney was sentenced to death for the first-degree murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Lauretha Vaird during a failed bank robbery on January 2, 1996. He was the triggerman in the incident, which resulted in the tragic death of the city's first female officer killed in the line of duty. Currently, he is an inmate at Pennsylvania’s State Correctional Institution at Greene.
